Fiddler of Oriel competition Ts and Cs for Féile Oriel 2023

The competition will have two categories; Junior (u18) and Senior (o18)

The competition is open to all fiddlers in the Irish traditional style of playing

A minimum standard of performance skill is required (please see list of previous Fiddler of Oriel winners (senior competition) to gauge an advisory standard.

 

Video entries to be submitted via MP4, MOV or similar platform. If you are not familiar with modern music technology, then ask someone who can assist you! The audio/visual and most especially audio must be of high sound quality. 

 

Selection of tunes; A slow air and a selection of no more than two sets of tunes; Reels, jigs, hornpipes, slides, polkas, slip jigs. You can decide how to present, for example a slow air leading into a set of reels, then a mixed selection; you decide how to best present your fiddling skills to impress the adjudicators.

Titles of tunes and names (if known) of composers need to be submitted. A little about yourself and your musical background, influences etc on your submission form. All performances need to be unaccompanied and performed by rote.The adjudicators will give each submission equal time to listen and evaluate your entry.

There will be a maximum of eight (8) finalists in each category. 16 in total. 

The final x 2 sets of 8 finalists will be named on our website and on our social media pages once the adjudicators have made their decisions. Each of the finalists must commit to attending in person the finals in Monaghan town on April 30th 

Canvassing anyone connected with Fiddler of Oriel will automatically disqualify.

There is no entry fee for this competition. Ensure that your submission form is fully completed before submission and that you are happy with your video performance. Competition closes on February 15th. Late entries will not be accepted.
